Both the boys and girls golf teams have had a great season this year with both making it to post-season play.

The boys just finished their regular season and are starting the postseason. They finished fourth as a team at regionals and had five guys advance as individuals.

The boys will go to sectionals at the University of Illinois orange course, including senior Grant Winkel.

He said, “I take my mind off of it the day before. I don’t practice hard and only for about 30 minutes.”

“I have a nice, hearty dinner and on the first tee take deep breaths to contain my nerves,” Winkel adds.

Junior Max Cook says, “We definitely have the potential to do very well, but we have yet to find the ‘magic’ we had in the beginning of the season.”

Reflecting on this season, Cook added, “My favorite moment so far this year was winning conference. We had four guys in top 10 individually and younger underclassmen stepped up and showed great potential for the future of Dunlap golf.”

The girls team are currently 7-1 in the Mid-Illini conference.

Leading the way is senior Angie Wu, who is finishing her third season on the 11-member team.

She credits the team’s success to hard work and a lot of practice.

Looking to the future of the team, she encourages others to try of for the team.

Wu’s advice for those nervous about trying out is that “everyone on the team is a beginner. The coaches are really good at developing basic skills and techniques so it is a good learning experience.”
