Star running back, Luke Bennyhoff of Dunlap High School has been a key contributor to the football team’s success, along with a little of his own success.

Dunlap’s football team has perfect record of 11-0, winning two playoff games, and is now headed to the 5A State quarterfinals. And one reason for this success is Bennyhoff, who holds two school records, including most rushing yards in a season and most touchdowns in a season.

Bennyhoff says this year’s success is due to more experience on “Both sides of the ball including one four-year-varsity player and two three-year-varsity players.”

But he is being modest. According to, Bennyhoff rushed for 1,468 yards along with 25 touchdowns in the regular season, the most ever by a Dunlap running back.

To Bennyhoff, these records just shows all the hard work he has put into the game and it is finally paying off.

Bennyhoff said that he will never forget the memories that he has made this year with this team. He says that his favorite memory of high school football is winning the Mid-Illini Conference championship because it is something that no other Dunlap football team has been able to achieve.

Bennyhoff, who is a senior, knows that his high school football days are coming to an end. He said, “I’ll miss those Friday night lights and having the whole community show up to support us.”
