Dunlap High School boys and girls tennis coach, Patrick Gornik recently received the High School Tennis Coaches Association Coach of the Year, Class A award for 2017 from IHSTCA.

The award recognizes the success of the coaches and athletes. Each year, a variety of awards are announced to celebrate the hard work of coaches who develop individuals and teams.

“It was a great honor, obviously unexpected, I think of it more as a team award,” stated Gornik when he heard the news.

He always says that he always tries to coach to the best of his ability. Awards aren’t one of the main focuses, “if it happens it happens” he stated.

The meaning of the award to him is more of a reflection of the team trusting him to lead them to the right spot.

This isn’t the first time Coach Gornik has been recognized for his coaching abilities, He was awarded the girls regional coach of the year for 2016.
