Last Friday and Saturday, Dunlap High School welcomed “Madrigal Knight” to the DHS commons with welcoming faces and sold-out shows.

This annual holiday event, which began in 2002, features a collection of dinner songs centered around the coming of the Christmas feast, along with concert style songs, comedic songs, and traditional carols.

The audience was treated to a five-course meal and brilliant entertainment from the Madrigals with songs ranging from “Jingle Bells” to more classical pieces such as “Gaelic Goodnight” and “A La Nanita.”

The Madrigals, which is a small group of 22, performed skits such as “Cold and Fugue Season” and “Boar’s Head Carol” which received plentiful laughs from the audience.

The all-female Court Singers also performed.

This year the audience feasted on Creamy Stew of Root and Curds as their main dish with Wassail and Bread Pudding remaining a constant since the first “Madrigal Knight”.

Reece says “Both performances were very successful, and it’s always fun to have a sold out castle. Saturday was probably the smoother night. The kids were rested, more confident, and anything that didn’t come off correctly on Friday was tweaked to be more successful Saturday.”

Angela Perez, senior, has been a part of Madrigals for three years, she says the most nerve-wracking part of the show is rehearsal because “sometimes it was frustrating to work with everyone but we all worked together to pull through and create the best show possible.”

This was junior Hope Plank-Hogberg’s first year performing as a Court Singer. She said of her experience, “I definitely felt as if I belonged to this group.”
