DHS Boys Swim Toward Sectionals

DHS Boys Swim Toward Sectionals

Fresh off a Mid-Illini Invitational win, the boys’ swim team hopes to continue its successful season during the sectionals on Feb. 17.

The team, which is 6-2 in dual meets this year, took first and second in diving during the Mid-Illini Invitational.

A reason for the Eagles good record in meets and invitationals this year has to do with the upperclassmen presence on the team.  Coach Jim Bucher said that when it comes to the leaders of his team, “I have a strong junior class and one senior that keeps everyone in line.”

Another way their veteran presence is shown through a very strong Junior class that includes Zach Boley and Ben Owens.  Coach Bucher said that they are two very strong swimmers who “can swim any event for the team.”

Those group of guys along with the rest of the team will look to have success at the approaching sectional event.  The event takes place on February 17th.  Sectionals are a big day for any high school swimmer that has aspirations of making it to state.

Junior Zach Glover who competes in the 200 and 400 meter free relay teams, as well as a couple individual freestyle events, says that “Moline will be our toughest competition at the event.  It will be tough with the loss of a few guys from last year.  If we swim our best then we can advance to state”.

Coach Bucher has expectations of state as well saying, “We are trying to get a couple of individuals and a relay to the State meet at Evanston this year.”
