The Dunlap Scholastic Bowl team’s recent run of success has just added to the culture of a winning and tradition over the course of the past 25 years.

The team followed a season where they finished fourth overall in the state with another dominating season in the books. They finished with a record of 50-8, went a perfect 20-0 in Peoria Area League competition and won their Regional before a tough loss in the Sectional, with a plethora of awards along the way.

Seniors and team captains Max Jong and Noah Curry took home First Team Peoria Area League honors for the Eagles. One of the rising stars from this year’s team was sophomore Ken Johnson. Johnson was, according to coach Barrington, a stable force in competition and “the man.”

“It was a great season, but I was a little disappointed with how it ended earlier than we had expected in Sectionals, but overall I enjoyed it,” Johnson said.

The stabilizing force behind the team is indeed its coach of 24 years. Barrington takes little to no credit for the success of his teams over the years, instead of giving full credit to the student-athletes involved.

Coach Aaron Barrington and his teams have had their fair share of success over his career, having won nine Regional titles, made five state tournament appearances, and have recorded 816 wins.

“The students in recent years have really bought in and committed to the team with a desire to win,” Barrington said.
