Red Ribbon Week is celebrated in high schools nationwide during the month of October.

Red Ribbon Week is an alcohol, drug, tobacco and violence prevention campaign. It is celebrated October 29-31 and November 1-2.

Here at Dunlap High School, Red Ribbon Week is put on by the Snowball club.

Junior Sophie Roberts and Sophomore AJ Prest are in charge of the planning. Students are encouraged to participate in activities including dressing up for spirit week.

Monday: Red Out

Tuesday: Hawaiian

Wednesday: Halloween

Thursday: Red, White and Blue

Friday: Maroon and Gold

Roberts says, “It takes about 5 months to plan the whole thing,” says Roberts, “A lot goes into planning all of the fun activities that take place all week.”

On Monday, students were handed red ribbons on their way into school as a way to get the whole school connected and supportive. Living statistics were written on the sidewalk outside of the school. Lockers were also decorated as tombstones to represent one of the millions who have died due to drugs or alcohol.
